Wireless Audio Transmitter for TV
We all love to watch TV, don't we? Whether it's India’s cricket match or your mother's favorite serial, it is safe to say, that every Indian household would be incomplete without a TV. Ever since its creation, the TV has been changing the way we consume media.

Everything from the field of film-making to advertising has changed radically due to the movie-box. That is why this time around, we will take a look at a wireless technology project, centered around a television.

Skyfi Labs Projects
Project Description

If you sneak out of bed to watch a late-night football match, what do you do first? Turn the speaker down real low, so that your mother and father don't catch you, right? Well, by implementing this project, you can say goodbye to those woes. This wireless technology project will help you use headphones while watching TV, getting rid of the excessive noise problem.

Wireless communication helps you transmit and receive data over distances, using various techniques, such as radiofrequency, infrared waves. This project can be done via both these methods. In this method, we have preferred RF waves because they allow for more substantial flexibility in terms of other components required. These headphones can be used to listen to your favorite song or binge-watch your favorite TV show for up to 20 feet range.

The wireless technology headphones project aims to create:

  1. A transmitter circuit that sends analog data
  2. A receiver circuit that captures and reads the sent data
  3. Replace all the cables and wires with a purely wireless system
  4. Separate the audio transmitted by the TV into wireless headphone frequency
Project Implementation

  • Most TVs nowadays employ audio and video RCA sockets.
  • Use an RCA-RCA cord and connect your TV's audio out to the transmitter's input socket.
  • Customize the transmitted gain, by using a preamplifier.
  • This will help cancel out disturbing noises in the background.
  • Use a trial-and-error method to figure out the best and most optimum gain percentage.
  • Use a portable FM receiver module, which comes with sockets to connect your headphones.
  • Whenever audio signals are transmitted, three components work together to make it happen.
  • Initially, the sound is sent to a microphone, which reads or identifies the sound.
  • This is then sent through a transmitter, which amplifies and sends the audio out.
  • The receiver circuit which makes use of an antenna then captures this audio and splits it into the frequency which the headphones can handle.
  • An antenna is also attached after the transmitter to broadcast the signal over short distances.
  • The antenna transmitter-receiver pair is responsible for the successful wireless transmission of sound.
  • The trimmer capacitors are connected across inductors to help in varying the frequency of the audio signal.
  • The inductor is formed by coiling 25SWG enameled copper wire.
  • One of the transistors that form a part of the transmitter network act as an audio preamplifier. It is here that the gain must be set. Gain can be changed by changing the current/voltage supply to the transistor base.
  • The other transistor functions as an FM oscillator-cum-modulator in the receiver circuit.
  • An ATMEGA2560 microprocessor can also be used to read and transmit data seamlessly. Such a chip will help in analog to digital conversion and vice-versa.
