Waste Plastic Fuel used in Petrol Engine
Plastic has become a daily need in our life and at present it is posing a greater threat to the environment. Nearly a 200 million tons of plastic is been produced worldwide annually.

This used plastic is dreadful threat to the environment and are filling the landfills and dustbins. Efforts are been made for the us of the use of the biodegradable materials but they are not successful as they are costly and unavailability as compared to plastic.

Skyfi Labs Projects
One of the main problems that are been faced by the world is fuel shortage. As the count of the vehicles are been increased day by day there is a huge demand on the fuel for the vehicles. There by there is a scope for the fuel production. Here, in this project we use the waste plastic into fuels.

Plastic wastes were used for the process pyrolysis to produce fuel oil that will have the same properties of diesel and petrol. The process pyrolysis runs without the presence of oxygen. Therefore, a reactor is made to provide the needed temperature for the reaction. These plastic wastes are subjected to thermal cracking, depolymerisation, pyrolysis, and distillation to get different fuels like kerosene, petrol, and diesel etc…

Requirements:

Knowledge of Distillation.

Knowledge of Fluid Mechanics.

Reactor for the pyrolysis.

Project Implementation:

  1. A reactor is made to provide enough temperature of 300 degrees Celsius for the process of pyrolysis.
  2. The desired shape of the reactor can be a cylinder.
  3. This plastic waste is treated in this cylinder at 300 – 350 degrees Celsius.
  4. We get the desired fuel at the required temperature.
  5. Check the properties of the obtained fuel with the petrol, diesel etc…
Software Requirements:

  • If you need to plot the graph for the values you can use software like MS-Excel, Origin Pro etc…
Advantages:

  • We are reusing the waste plastic so no using of the raw materials.
  • This oil can be used as the substitute for the existing fuels.
  • This will also keep the environment green.
Conclusion:

This project we tried to convert the waste plastics into valuable fuels. It can be concluded that this method of thermal pyrolysis of waste plastic which produces the fuel oil, which is indeed a valuable resource and also, we are trying to reduce one of the world’s biggest problem – plastic waste. It is also having advantages such as production at low temperature, and the cost will be less than the production of petrol.
