Each solar road panel is linked with other neighboring panels to form the solar roadways system. This concept can also be used in highways, roads, parking lots, driveways and sidewalks as alternative. The generation of energy from the solar panels will satisfy the use of fossil fuels. The solar roadway has the technology to solve the problem of oil dependency in a relatively short period of times. Generally, the solar roadways will create an intelligent and secure highway infrastructure that pays for itself. It eliminates the need for coal-fired or nuclear power plants. It ends our dependency on oil and fossil fuels. It provides safer driving conditions and traffic management

    Project requires a good understanding of how modular paving system works, how solar panel works, how to install them and thinking all of this the cost for this project should also be decided it will be little costlier but will be very useful to save mother earth. Solar roadways involve photovoltaic effect. It is a method of generating power by connecting solar radiations into direct current electricity by using semiconductors that exhibit the photovoltaic effect.

    Photovoltaic power generation employs solar panels composed of a number of solar cells containing a photovoltaic material. Mainstream material presently used for photovoltaic includes monocrystalline silicon, polycrystalline silicon, amorphous silicon, cadmium telluride, sulfide etc. Sunlight falls on the solar panel which generates electricity. This is at the same time is transferred to nearby houses and power stations. LEDs controlled by microprocessors display information on the surface of the road. The enticing layer clears the road and also senses changes in weight. Solar roadways also replace traditional ugly power lines. As the power lines will be located in the solar roadways it will also prevent power outages from snow and ice accumulating on lines. This makes a city much safer.

    Unlike the dark roads the vehicles drive on night, the solar roadways will have LEDs which will paint the lanes and can be instantly customized as needed. With the illuminated highways accidents will be reduced and night time driving will be safer for all. The solar roadways make the highway more intelligent. It provides clean renewable energy while providing safer driving conditions along with power and data delivery. The solar roadway will pay for itself through the generation of electricity. The same money that is being used to build current roads can be used to build the solar roadways.

Project Implementation:

    A solar roadway is a series of structurally engineered solar panels that are driven upon. Solar road panels that collect energy to be used by homes and businesses and able to store excess energy alongside the solar roadways.

  1. Road Surface Layer:road surface will be of semitransparent high strength material so that sunlight can pass through it to the cells aligned beneath it.
  2. Electronic Layer:it will consist of photo voltaic cell which will absorb solar energy. It will contain a microprocessor board for sensing loads and controlling the heat and removal of ice using heating elements based on locality.
  3. Base Plate Layer:base plate layer will distribute the power as well as send data these need to the protected from every kind of weather.
  4. We can add LED strips for night driving making the driving safer and road more visible at night to reduce the number of accidents.
