Smart TrashCan Using Internet Of Things
Nowadays, people are using the smart phone to pay their electricity bills, book, transport, cinema tickets, home appliances, even personal things in online people ordering.Same way other things can be done on the online.By the Smartphones can monitoring the garbage bins in the urban areas.Because overflowing of garbage pins the breeding of germs and it spreads diseases like malaria etc.

So the garbage bins are monitored by the sensor whether garbage pin capacity is filled or not in the areas. This concept aims optimize waste collection and maintain the cleanliness of the area.Internet of things is becoming an increasingly growing concept both in workplace and outside of it.

Skyfi Labs Projects
This concept aims to design an IOT based trashcan will automatically and continuously intimate the status of the trashcan to the Municipality. The municipality workers get the notification and they can locate the area remove the garbage pin replace the new one.

The garbage can consist of sensors it detects the waste is dropped,if it is sensed the sends the signal to the microcontroller and it check the waste is degradable or nondegradable by capacitive it can separate the waste pulled into corresponding container in the garbage can.so In top of the garbage can the infrared sensor is placed to sense the waste after that there is a plate that open and close according to separation of the waste so it falls on the container one is for degradable another for non degradable wastes by using the dc motor to open ,close the plate of the container.

When the waste is filled the sensor sensed the signal is passed to the controller and then to the Raspberry module. In ESP2866 is connected with the Raspberry, the signal from the raspberry internet is connected via mobile or wifi in the area so the data is transmitted to the cloud server the message is sent to the mobile application of the Municipality nearby or the worker of the particular area workers.

Project Description:

  1. Raspberry Pi: The Raspberry Pi is slower than a modern laptop or desktop but is still a complex Linux computer and provide all the expected abilities that implies,at a low-power consumption level. The OS raspbian ,the OS is installed on the SD Card only. The Raspberry Pi is open hardware, with the exception of the primary chip on the Raspberry Pi,which runs many of the main components of the board -CPU,graphics,memory,the USB controller, etc. Many of the projects made with a Raspberry Pi are open and well-documented as well and are things you can build and modify yourself.
  2. PIC Microcontroller: The PIC microcontrollers appeal to hobbyists and experimenters, especially in the fields of electronics and robotics, wide availability, low cost of programming with built-in EEPROM(electrically erasable programmable read-only memory),set of register that also function as RAM.Special purpose control register for on-chip hardware resources are also mapped into the data space. It is similar to the 8051 microcontroller and the crystal frequency is 8 MHZ only
  3. DC Motor: This is an electric machines which converts electrical energy to mechanical energy.Used to open and close the container plate
  4. Infrared sensor: An infrared sensor is an electronic instrument which is used to sense certain characteristics of its surroundings by either emitting and/or detecting infrared radiation.Infrared sensors are also capable of measuring the heat being emitted by an object and detecting motion.
  5. The wavelength region which ranges from 0.75 to 3µm is known as the near infrared regions. The region between 3 and 6µm is known as the mid-infrared and infrared radiation which has a wavelength greater higher than 6µm is known as far infrared.Infrared technology finds applications in many everyday products.

Televisions use an infrared detector to interpret the signals sent from a remote control. The key benefits of infrared sensors include their low power requirements, their simple circuitry and their portable features.

  6. ESP8266: The ESP8266 is low-cost Wifi microchip with full TCP/IP stack and microcontroller capability, connections using Hayes style commands and with 1MiB of built-in flash, allowing for single-chip devices capable to Wifi.

Project Implementation:

Steps to install OS Raspberry Pi,

  1. Downloading the Raspbian OS.
  2. Download the SD Format
  3. Insert the SD Card on the Laptop Slot
  4. Open the SD Format click the format option
  5. After format check the SD card is empty
  6. Download the Win32 Disk Manager by this OS can be installed on the SD Card
  7. Writing the Raspbian OS in the Micro SD Card
  8. After installing the OS check the SD Card properties and space
  9. Open Notepad save as empty and select the all files
  10. Save the notepad file on where the OS is saved
Programming language: Embedded C language and python
