The advancement in technologies has bought many advantages to the country but disadvantages also which affect the nation’s growth.

The recent development of using chemical fertilizers like urea, calcium nitrate, etc. helped farmers to develop their crops but had many side effects which caused various diseases to the human health

Hence now developments are to be made so that the farmers will get a good yield and no harm caused to human health.

The above things were considered after many types of research, the idea of replacement of chemical fertilizers by biofertilizers was discussed and found to be efficient.

Bio-fertilizers

• The fertilizers which contain only living organism and which can provide natural nutrients to the soil by nourishing it are called as bio-fertilizers
• These bio-fertilizers are also available in organic form. When these are used as seeds or inoculants to the soil they multiply and participate in cycling of nutrient which develops the productivity of crops.

Types of bio-fertilizers

• Symbiotic system

• Non-symbiotic system

1. Azotobacter spp
2. Azospirillum spp
3. Blue-green algae

Bio-fertilizers in crops production

• In soil micro-biology, bio-fertilizer can be used as a nutrient source by maintaining fruit yield and quality with lower production costs
• It helps in converting atmospheric nitrogen into organic forms that are usable by the plant
• It is found that the use of rhizobium in the fertilizers help to increase the grain yield by 10-15%
• Nitrogen fixation occurs in the roots or in the parts of the stem where more bacteria is present.

Advantage of bio-fertilizers over chemical fertilizers

• Since it contains only natural microorganisms it is safer than chemical fertilizers
• Properties such as soil erosion; fertility of soil doesn’t get affected due to bio-fertilizers
• The other advantage of bio-fertilizers is that they can be installed on a lower cost
• The other advantage of bio-fertilizers is that it yields higher growth rates of rice than chemical fertilizers.
• The other advantage of bio-fertilizers is that they are friendly to the environment and also checks for nutrient availability from natural resources.

• From the above project, it can be concluded that bio-fertilizers should be used more instead of chemical fertilizers.
• More detailed study on the bio-fertilizers can be done so that these number can be found and used effectively.
