Electromagnetic clutches are made to operate electrically and transmit torque mechanically. This is why they used to be referred to as electro-mechanical clutches.

Most common brakes use the friction to convert kinetic energy into heat, though other methods of energy conversion may be used. This work is based on regenerative braking which converts much of the energy to electrical energy, which may be stored and the stored energy is used for later use.

Regenerative braking is small, but still a very important step towards our gradual independence of the fossil fuels. These techniques allow batteries to be used for longer periods of time without plugging batteries into an external charger.

Project Description:

  1. Dynamo: A machine for converting mechanical energy into electrical energy, typically by means of rotating coils of copper wire in a magnetic field.
  2. Battery: Battery is used to store the power, mostly lead acid battery is picked.
  3. Limit Switch: A limit switch is a switch operated by the motion of a machine part or presence of an object. They are used for controlling machinery as part of a control system, as a safety interlocks, or to count objects passing a point.
  4. AC Motor: An AC motor is an electric motor driven by an alternating current(AC). The AC motor commonly consists of two basic parts,an outside stator having coils supplied with alternating current to produce rotating magnetic field, and an inside rotor attached to the output shaft producing a second rotating magnetic field. Here Single induction motor is used as the engine model.
  5. Chain Drive: Chain drive consists of an endless series of chain links that mesh with toothed sprockets. Chain sprockets are locked to the shaft of the driver and to rotates.
  6. Inverter: An inverter is an electronic device which uses to convert the Direct current into an Alternating Current(AC). From the inverter circuit the CFL lamp is connected.

Project Implementation:

Regenerative Clutch For Power Generation
  1. As per the block diagram make the metal frame to fix the motors and the chain drive the base frame
  2. Attach the AC Motor (i.e.Engine) metal frame and connect the spur gear to the chain drive
  3. Attach the Electromagnetic coupling to the chain drive so motor chain drive rotates
  4. Fix the clutch pedal with spring on the side down and attach the limit switch there
  5. Attach the Dynamo with the electromagnetic clutch
  6. Connect the battery with the dynamo and the CFL to the inverter circuit.
Project Brief: Power the AC motor power supply, run it for few minutes. And when the pedal is pressed the electromagnetic couple is couped itself to rotate. So the dynamo also rotates and the power is generated in the dynamo and it is passed to the battery to store and the inverter circuit cnverts the dc into the ac source then it is applied to the CFL Lamp to glove.
