Some of the PLC brands used in industries are Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Delta, General Electric, Honeywell, Modicon, Schneider Electric, Bosch PLC and most of these are used in automation.

In PLC, the program called a ladder diagram is uploaded to the control room. The field PLC is attached via Ethernet Cable to receive the commands from the control room. Also, Internet Of Things can be integrated to the PLC.

In this project the DELTA PLC is used to control the operation, delta software is used to draw the Ladder Diagram program.

You need a PLC, Conveyor Belt connected with DC Motor, Proximity Sensor, Pump.

Project Description:

  1. PLC: The PLC receives information from the connected sensor, and it processes the received data and triggers outputs based on the pre-programmed. PLC can monitor, record run-time data such as machine productivity, temperature, automatically start and stop processes, generate alarms if machine malfunction and more.
  2. Ladder Diagram: It has Rungs and Rails on the software tool. Using this, ladder diagram is created.
  3. Relay: A relay is an electrically operated switch. It can handle the high power required to directly control an elecric motor or other loads.
  4. DC Motor: This is an electric machine which converts electrical energy to mechanical energy. When the shaft rotates, the ball bearing also rotates.
  5. Proximity Senor: Proximity sensor is a sensor that can detect the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact. It emits an electromagnetic field or a beam of electromagnetic radiation(infrared) and looks for the changes in the field or return signal.

Project Implementation:

  1. Interface the sensor, motor with the PLC input and output terminals
  2. Create the ladder diagram using the tool on delta software and upload the program to the PLC
  3. Place the metal tin on the conveyor, check the process and adjust the timer value on the program for pumping the liquid.
Project Brief: The conveyor connected with the DC motor and the input is connected to PLC device. And the pump is placed on the strip when the metal tin is placed on the conveyor. It rotates initially and the second proximity is placed near the tab senses the conveyor stops.

The PLC gives the command to pump the liquid on the tank for a particular time duration (timer value is mentioned on the program), once filled the conveyor starts to rotate for the next process operation.

Software requirements:

  1. DELTA: The ISPSOFT delta version used to create the ladder diagram programmer to PLC Device.

Simple Task?

    Use only one timer, when the switch is pressed in particular time delay the OUTPUT should ON. Again press the same button, after a particular time delay the OUTPUT will OFF
