Parallel port controller using MATLAB

This MATLAB project deals with the parallel port controller. In parallel port, all the connections are ON in single switch, in earlier days they used serial port connection but nowadays technology has improved, so we are using the parallel port connection. These parallel port are used in many ways such as printers, LED lights ON and OFF condition. These are all generated by the MATLAB software. And this is a hardware requirement.

INTRODUCTION

The parallel port is a type of line found on computers for connecting peripherals like pins, cables and connectors. The parallel port of the computer is a 25 pin, and it is a D type connector, it is also called a line printer terminal (LPT). These parallel port having 3 types they are data port, control port, status port. Entree to the parallel port is through 25 pins, D type connector is a female type connector.

This female type connector will be present on the backside of your computer. These statements of the three ports are in a serial manner. These ports are having some descriptions they are called unidirectional port, bidirectional port, enhanced parallel port, enhanced capability port, standard parallel port and some are the input and output port.

Here, the parallel port will control the LED‘S by a stepper motor. And in these, there are 8 LED bulbs that are connected with the 9th bulb through parallel connection. If 8 bulbs are all ON then it is ON condition and if 8 bulbs are all OFF then it is OFF condition.

To run this parallel port, we are using a unipolar stepper motor. It has two centres tapped coils. To glow these LED lights we should generate a program. To generate this program we are using Matlab software.

ADVANTAGES

  • It is more flexibility and economic gain.
  • High data transfer rate.
  • Number of 8 bits above the wires in parallel.
  • Distance will be in short.
DISADVANTAGES

  • More expensive
  • More number of wires are required
  • Need high voltage to confirm the efficiency
Matlab is a multiple paradigm numerical computing language which is widely used in a various range of application Matlab performs matrix utilization, task plotting information and implementation of algorithms.

CONCLUSION

In this MATLAB project, finally, it gives that glow of the LED bulbs at a time by using a stepper motor. The parallel port will work under MATLAB software. The future enhancement of these parallel port controller, make the low cost and get the experience more and reduce the bulbs and wires. This software can be used in many applications.
