heavy duty diesel vehicles and in the future installation of OBD in HDD vehicles will be necessary this simulation will help to increase the effective working of the emission control systems for better results and low emission standards. The objective of this project will be to create a simulation model of the diesel engine with emissions to test under European test cycles.

A good understanding of working of MATLAB and Simulink is necessary and how to define an engine is required. The engine model that you will design will be a mean value engine model these models are described as state variables and flows. The engine model should consist of the other components that are like air filter from which air enters and then temperature increases due to the power of compressor and from there the air gets inside the chamber where it combusts and passes from turbine and exits through the exhaust chamber. All these components and data will be converted into mathematical equations. You will also require a good knowledge of the ETC(European Transition Cycle) and ESC(European Stationary Cycle) for this project.

Project Description:

  1. Determine all the components that take part in working of a diesel engine.
  2. Determine the relation that they share with each other based on that generates a mathematical relation between them.
  3. To simulate the engine model, we have to add some extensions to it like Scania ECU, the model of emission, Engine torque and a model for test cell control.
  4. Now all the system in ESC will be using a PI regulator and for ETC we can use accelerator and pedal position as output.
  5. Once everything is ready run the simulation in MATLAB and compare with the practical results and find a method to optimize the problem for better efficiency.

Software requirements:

  1. MATLAB: Works well in only Linux and Windows OS
