This project aims to design an automated flight parameter monitoring and alerting system based on Controller Area Network (CAN) communication. The system monitors the parameters like temperature, pressure, humidity, door status sensors. It alerts through the buzzer if anything went wrong.

The main objectives of the project are:

  • Designing of Flight parameters monitoring and alerting system.

Advantages of CAN bus communication:

  • Low cost and easy to use.
  • It communicates with direct analog signal lines, reducing errors, weight, costs.
  • The CAN bus system allows for central error diagnosis and configuration
  • It decides relevance and acts.
Project description:

  • Regulated power supply: An Embedded circuit which converts AC into DC.
  • Microcontroller: An 8bit microcontroller that uses low power and gives high-performance.
  • Temperature sensor: Used to sense the change in temperature.
  • LCD with driver: It contains a built-in LCD
  • Buzzer: A buzzer can work by an oscillating electronic circuit or another audio.
  • Parameter Threshold setter: These parameters include setting a threshold value for applicable exceptions
  • CAN transceivers: These are the interface between the CAN and the physical wires of the CAN bus lines. 
  • Humidity sensor: Used to sense the variation in humidity.
  • Pressure sensor: Used to sense the pressure difference which is caused by a change in altitude.
  • Door status sensor: It consists of door contacts and switch assemblies.
  • LED indicators: LED light panels may display pilot lights that show system operation
Project Method:

  • The proposed system makes use of a transmitter and receiver section.
  • The transmitter section equipped with temperature, pressure, humidity sensors, door status sensor.
  • The CAN transceiver sends parameters monitored onto a CAN bus. Data from CAN bus received by the Receiver section and displays it on LCD.
  • If any parameter is out of threshold range set, alerts through the buzzer.
  • The parameter threshold setter, which helps in changing the parameters threshold levels.
  • To perform this, the Microcontrollers are with programs are written using embedded ‘C’ language. This helps to identify the parameters.
The programming language used: C, C++, Python

Conclusion:

  • A CAN bus allows communicating with each other without a host. With the use of CAN, the monitoring is efficient.
  • CAN communication is not much in use.
Future work:

  • CAN communication used for detecting the variation in climatic changes.
  • Nowadays, CAN communication used for monitoring the external hazardous caused by the environment.
