It contains the various types of I/Os that are very suitably matching with the industrial instrumentation and plant control interfaces. It provides the flexibility in the programming options especially the "ladder language" that is similar to the industrial standard "ladder Network" used for designing automatic control schemes in the plants. This project deals with the design of automatic door using PLC. The aim of this project is to develop an automatic door using the infrared sensor. An infrared sensor is an electronic device, that emits in order to sense some aspects of the surroundings. An IR sensor can measure the heat of an object as well as detects the motion. These types of sensors measure only infrared radiation, rather than emitting it that is called a passive IR sensor. The programmable controller has a strong ability, high reliability, flexible configuration, simple programming, etc, is a measure means of contemporary industrial production automation and automation control equipment.

Project Description:

  1. PLC: A PLC is an industrial digital computer which receives information from connected sensors or input devices, processes the data, and triggers outputs based on pre-programmed parameters. Depending on the inputs and outputs, a PLC can monitor and record run-time data such as machine productivity or operating temperature, automatically start and stop processes, generate alarms if a machine malfunction, and more.
  2. IR sensor: An Infrared sensor can measure the heat of an object as well as detects the motion. These types of sensors measure only infrared radiation, rather than emitting it that is called a passive IR sensor. Usually, in the infrared spectrum, all the objects radiate some form of thermal radiations. In this project, you will use this sensor to detect the presence of human and their movement towards the door.
  3. Servo Motor: Motor is a rotary actuator or linear actuator that is capable of carrying out precise control of angular or linear position, velocity, and acceleration. It uses a suitable motor coupled to a sensor for position feedback. The motor drives the door when the input is given.
  4. Limit Switch: A limit switch is an electromechanical device that consists of an actuator mechanically linked to a set of contacts. When an object comes into contact with the actuator, the device operates the contacts to make or break an electrical connection. This device will be used to restrict or control the movement of the door.

Project Implementation:

  1. At 1st install LOGO! Soft comfort v8.0 in your PC. Then draw circuit and write code with proper logic to import into PLC.
  2. Then design your door and fabricate it using plywood.
  3. Connect IR sensor, Limit switch and Servo motor properly keeping in mind the design of your door. Do proper calibration of the sensors.
  4. Upload the code in PLC and test your prototype.
  5. If you observe any error correct your program and test your prototype again.
  6. According to the design and hardware used write VDHL code and test it by implementing in your prototype.

Project Brief: The automatic door should open when movement of a human is towards the door only and should close when a human pass through the door. If there is no physical movement of human nearby, the door should remain closed.

Software requirements:

LOGO! Soft Comfort V8.0(PLC Software): LOGO! A soft Comfort is a programming software which you will use to programme your PLC. This allows the creation of user programs by selecting the respective functions and their connection via drag-and-drop. This speed up programming and testing.
