Comparative analysis when cement is replaced by rice husk and glass powder
The development in concrete is growing and various types of concrete are developed day by day. There are many mixtures of concrete.

The cement is now mixed with various items and its strength and behavior are checked.

Skyfi Labs Projects
Cement is an important material in construction and without that, no product can be formed.

The present project discusses the behavior of concrete when it is replaced by rice husk and glass powder.

Rice husk ash is a by-product which is left when rice husk is burnt. Various proportions of glass powder are used and are tested for its strength

Materials required

Cement:

  1. The cement used here is hydraulic cement which is obtained by pulverizing the produced clinkers.
  2. The cement is a mixture of argillaceous and calcareous materials
  3. The cement of OPC 43 grade is used
Sand:

  1. River sand is widely used in the production of concrete
  2. The composition of sand depends upon the local rock sources and conditions
  3. The important common constituent present in the sand is silica, usually in the form of quartz
  4. Local used river sand is used in this project
  5. The sand used is of zone II and which has a specific gravity of 2.6
Aggregate:

  1. The aggregate used here is of rocklike material
  2. Aggregates are taken according to ASTM standards
  3. The aggregate has a specific gravity of 2.59 and 12 mm downsize
Water:

  1. The water used in this project is potable water
  2. The water is mainly used for hydration of cement
  3. The standards of water are taken according to IS 456: 2000
  4. The proportion of water decides the quality of concrete
Glass powder

  1. The glass used for glass powder was locally collected
  2. The glass powder is used as cementitious material which contains high silica and where the particle size is less than 150 μm
Design mix

  1. M25 design mix is carried for a proportion of 1: 1.55: 3.02
  2. The water content was maintained at 0.45
The tests which were conducted are split tensile strength and flexural strength and the specifications were according to IS 10262:2009

Conclusion

The following conclusion was obtained

  • It was observed that at lower glass powder content the strength was increasing and decreasing at higher content
  • It was also observed that the tensile strength of concrete increases with the rate of Rice husk ash & Glass powder
  • Hence more developments can be carried which will help to develop more methods
