It enables to easily create and test virtual models of any mechanical systems in a fraction of time and saves cost required for physical build and test. Unlike most CAD-embedded tools, Adams incorporates real physics by simultaneously solving equations for kinematics, statics, quasi-static, and dynamics. Adams also runs nonlinear dynamics in a tiny fraction of the time required by FEA solutions. Loads and forces computed by Adams simulations improve the accuracy of FEA by providing a better assessment of how they vary throughout a full range of motion and operating environments.

Industries these days rely heavily on computer simulation to study the general trends before investing heavily on actual experimental testing. Testing typically requires multiple vehicles, numerous sets of tires and expensive instrumentation to obtain indicative data on all the relevant parameters, and after all this, there is still a possibility that the results show that the desired results cannot be obtained thus making the whole experiment a waste of resources. To alleviate the expenses associated, a model is first created and simulations are run on it, to make sure that the trend shows improvement and that one may indeed go ahead and invest in the experimentation.

Project Requirements:

A good understanding of working of ADAMS/CAR and at the end will resemble a actual car for which we will require a basic understanding of suspensions brakes chassis and steering and we will divide the vehicles into 6 subsystems who all will be interconnected with each other in one way or another and 4 templates that will simplify the designing process.

Project Description

  1. The whole vehicle is divided into basic 4 templates Axle, Wheel, body and Steering template.
  2. All of them will have their unique design and signals like for axle the input will be forces acting on the four steering actuators with no output signal defined for this template.
  3. For wheel no input signal is defined but the output signal designed based on the right and left global steering angles of the wheel.
  4. For Body template no input signal but different output signals like the center of gravity, angular velocities.
  5. Once the ADAMS/CAR model is ready to combine it with the ADAMS/Linear Module that will provide functions for linearizing models.
  6. Once the model is linearized we will give input signal to steering and output to the rotation of the wheel and cross check the vehicle data with the real-life simulation for better understanding.

Software requirements:

  1. Adams: Adams used for MBD and simualtion of machineries works well on Linux and Windows OS
