Venue: IIST Trivandrum
Date: 23 Mar 2013
Eligibility: For all shortlisted students at regional venues
The final will happen in three rounds.
Problem Statement: Modify the aircraft that you built in the regional workshop/ Build a new aircraft for agricultural purposes.
Design, implement and demonstrate a mechanism for increasing the efficiency or the ease or introduce a new practise in agriculture using RC Aircraft. The mechanism developed has to be
This will be a ground demonstration of the mechanism you developed to convert your plane into a useful agricultural machine. You are not required to fly the plane. You are only required to demo your product and present it to convince the judges that your plane, if manufactured as per your design, would fly and would be useful for agricultural procedures.
Example: You may come up with an objective to use your aircraft for spraying pesticides. Your objective for the competition is to get as close as possible to develop and demonstrate a plane for this purpose. You may:
1) Just come up with mechanism to spray pesticides, add it to the plane you made in the workshop and suggest a list of other changes that are needed to be done to the plane's design to make it fly.
2) Complete the design changes too in addition to adding the mechanism to spray pesticides.
3) Just get all of this in theory without actually doing any changes to your plane!
1) What other design modifications should be done to the aircraft you designed in the workshop?
2) Calculations to prove point 1
3) How will this plane be useful for agriculture? What will be the impact?
Background of the problem statement: India has always been an agriculture-based country. Even today, 1/6th of the country’s GDP is generated from agriculture and nearly half of the workforce of India is directly dependent on this sector. Though there has been advancement in the application of technology in farming, there is still much left to be desired. As the stakeholders in the future of this ever-growing nation, as engineers, it is your responsibility and, more importantly, an opportunity to better the application of the latest technology in the “field” of farming. We challenge you to use MAV technology for the betterment of the farming sector.
