Usage of heavier materials in various fields has led to a lot of fuel consumption. It has been a challenge for material engineers to come up with designs and materials that are lighter and yet better in terms of physical characteristics. This has called for researches into material development for the production of lighter materials of the same or even superior mechanical properties to the existing materials in this area of applications. This project work is dedicated to the study of the mechanical behavior of glass and epoxy composite materials through physical experimentation like tensile, compression, impact and flexural test to understand the composite behavior on a pin on disk machine.

On this modern age the composite materials are become the primary material for any engineering production because composite materials have several specific properties such as high strength to weight ratio, low cost, and ease of fabrication, tensile strength, compressive strength, Impact strength, high resistance to thermal which does not realize in pure material or non-composite material. Because of its vast application, a Mechanical Engineer should know how to fabricate and teste a composite material. In this project, you will be using two waste materials i.e. bagasse and waste plastic to produce a composite. The composite can be used for the purpose of heat insulation which we can apply in our rooftops or any place where we can reduce the heat transfer. The main aspect of our project is to produce something useful out of waste materials.

Composites are essential for the aerospace, space, and automotive industry. In fact, a lot of structures and high-performance machines incorporate composites into their design. There are plenty of companies in India who perform composite analysis and manufacturing. Having knowledge and experience in the design and fabrication of composite material increases the employability of an engineer. In this project, you are going to fabricate a composite material in which multiple materials will be used as fiber. This will help you gaining knowledge of composite material too.

Many of the engineers and researchers have done their research on composite materials and they found that the composite which is made from two different materials with different chemical and physical property that, when combined, produce a material with characteristics different from individual components. Doing research in composite material easy bit easy. A lot of scholars during Ph.D. work on composite material to publish papers and get a Ph.D. quickly. So, having knowledge in manufacturing and testing of composite material will be helpful to an engineer, who wants to pursue higher studies.
